The second year students' ball

As the third year students had left the school the day before, on 19th of February it was time for the second year students to celebrate being the oldest students of FES.   The day started at 10 am when the principal gave a speech, after which we raised a toast in the honor of the "old".

Then it was time for the first performance of the day.  The first year students, the 9th graders of the junior high school and the teachers could admire a couple of the dances they had learned.

After the performance at school, the old gave a public performance at Syke, the sports hall in Kyröskoski.  The local primary school pupils had been invited to watch the show, and the sixth graders were also invited to join one dance called Cicapo.

Time to cool off a bit.

The day culminated in the evening ball at school where all the family members could admire the fine dances of their great sons, daughters, sisters and brothers.

A day for the princes and princesses

The second graders danced their prom on the 13^th of February. A prom for the second graders is an old tradition and it is usually organised in February after the third period when the  third graders have ended their school year and the second graders are the oldest at school. The prom is called “Wanhojen tanssit” in English “Prom for the old ones”.

   The second graders' day started at 10 o’clock but the girls had woken up really early to do their hair and makeup. Everything was beautiful. The girls looked like princesses and the boys were so handsome in their suits and tuxedoes. You could feel the excitement in the school before the prom began.

   At 10 o’clock the  9^th graders from the junior high and the 1^st graders from the senior high were in the gym hall which the 1^st graders had decorated  the day before. The prom was ready to begin. Everything was beautiful. The 2^nd graders' dances were awesome and they danced really well, the dresses and the decoration were so amazing that it didn’t feel like it was our gym hall.

   After the 2^nd graders had danced in our school they went to the primary school in Kyröskoski and danced the same dances there. There was also a party in the evening.

The old dances, the best day ever !

The best thing at senior high school takes place in the second grade. In February the third year students leave school and the second year students become the kings of the school. This is so great that it has to be celebrated by dressing at least like the royal!

On February 17^th all the girls woke up between five and seven, the guys a little later. All the girls were like princesses! The dresses were of all colours and everybody had their hair done beautifully. Guys were handsome in their black suits and it kind of felt as if dressing in fancy clothes made them behave like gentlemen! 

                                 The celebration started with drinking a toast to the new oldest students.

First in the morning we danced to the younger senior high school students and the junior high school. The first year students had decorated the gym so it was easy to get in a good mood. 

 

Then we went to perform to Kyröskoski primary school where we also danced the cicapo-dance as an extra performance with the sixth grade pupils. 

Some of us were also dancing in the nursing home, health center and kindergartens. 

In the evening, there was the proper prom where our parents and relatives had been invited to. We, the old ones, were dancing eight different dances to the audience (at least those danced who didn’t have a foot in a plaster).  At the end we also danced with our parents and some brave ones asked their teachers to dance, too. 

A lot of time was reserved for photographing and of course there were dozens of people who wanted to capture this memorable day.   

After the official party at school we headed for a restaurant and enjoyed the good food. Then we went to have fun with each other to the place we had booked for us. And what happened there - only the people who were there know … 

None of us will ever forget that day. This is our time. We are the young ones now. And also the old ones but however… So, thanks to all who made this day possible! And thanks to all the second year students, you made this day outstanding!
